Alba goes truffle crazy

GO-ON-ITALY Italy Alba Truffle Piedmont

The Langhe region gets ready for the big fair celebrating this precious tuber

Here we go again! Once again this year, the Alba International White Truffle Fair, starting on 11 October, will be one of the most eagerly awaited events of the Piedmontese autumn, attracting food lovers, curious visitors from all over the world and food and wine professionals eager to discover the ‘diamond of the earth’ . Now in its 95th edition, the event offers a rich programme of cultural, gastronomic and social activities, celebrating the uniqueness of truffles and the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato areas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Alba White Truffle World Market

The beating heart of the event, the World White Truffle Market takes place in the Cortile della Maddalena, where expert trifolau display the best fresh specimens harvested in the surrounding woods. Here, buyers can take part in guided tastings and receive assistance from qualified sensory judges. Each truffle is certified to guarantee its origin and quality, in a ritual that emphasises the value and sustainability of harvesting.
During the fair, Italian and international Michelin-starred chefs take turns in a series of cooking shows and gourmet events in local restaurants and wine cellars. These events offer a creative way to discover how white truffles can enrich traditional and innovative dishes, paired with prestigious wines such as Barolo and Barbaresco. The “Cene d’Autore” (Signature Dinners) offer an immersive experience with themed tasting menus, often accompanied by meetings with producers and sommeliers.
The International Truffle Fair also offers numerous workshops and educational experiences for adults and children. Guided sensory workshops allow visitors to better understand the aromatic characteristics, morphology and history of Italy’s most famous tuber. From “sensory analysis of truffles” to meetings with trifolau, visitors can also watch simulations of truffle hunting with trained dogs, discovering traditional techniques and the central role of the environment in protecting local biodiversity.

Not just truffles: exhibitions and itineraries in the Langhe

The wonder tuber is the driving force behind many things. Every year, the fair is enriched with art, photography and music exhibitions dedicated to the Langhe landscape. The calendar of events includes concerts, theatre performances, film screenings and conferences on the theme of environmental sustainability and the promotion of agri-food excellence. The Truffle Museum tells the fascinating story of the relationship between man and nature in these lands.
The event also offers a unique opportunity to discover the surrounding hills, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, thanks to guided tours, nature walks, visits to wineries and tastings of local products such as hazelnuts, cheeses and fine wines. Personalised tourist packages are available with immersive experiences that allow you to fully enjoy the area: from trekking through the vineyards to bike tours and stays in farmhouses.

Recreational Activities and Side Events

In addition to gastronomic events, the Truffle Fair involves the historic centre of Alba with traditional events, travelling shows, markets selling typical products, art workshops and the historical re-enactment “Baccanale del Tartufo” (Truffle Bacchanal).
The fair is strongly committed to environmental sustainability and social responsibility. Every year, projects are promoted for soil protection, the maintenance of truffle forests and education on ethical harvesting. Conferences and round tables address the importance of biodiversity and food quality with a view to increasingly responsible tourism.
The International White Truffle Fair of Alba is a sensory, cultural and gastronomic journey into the heart of the Langhe, which gourmets and curious visitors should not miss. We are here for all your needs: visit it with us!
