At the heart of this region lies Barolo, a noble red wine made from Nebbiolo grapes: austere, elegant, and long-aging, each glass embodies centuries of passion for winemaking and authentic Piedmontese tradition.

Description

Hiking Between Novello and Barolo: A Loop Trail Through the Vineyards of the Langhe

Our trip begins at 10:30 a.m. from the parking lot at the Novello sports field, a convenient and easily accessible meeting point. Before setting off, the bar at the ski resort is the perfect spot for a quick coffee. From here, we’ll head downhill along the eastern slopes, with a sweeping view of the hills, until we reach the heart of Barolo in about an hour’s walk. We’ll cross the village, passing right beneath its castle, and then head up the opposite slope. If time and the crowd allow, we can stop at one of the downtown spots for a glass of wine or to grab something to eat for lunch.

As we continue on our way, a short climb will treat us to a unique view of the village. After passing through a dense forest of oak and chestnut trees, we’ll arrive at a stunning viewpoint—the perfect spot for our outdoor lunch break. The second part of the route will take us back downhill to cross the provincial road, before climbing again through vineyards and historic villages until we reach our cars in Novello. Along the way, if the work in the fields allows it, we’ll stop at a small winery run by local producers to get a close-up look at their work.

To make the most of your day, we recommend wearing lightweight hiking shoes and comfortable clothing. The trail is easy to walk on, but if it has rained recently, the ground may be muddy. Remember to bring a backpack for lunch, a water bottle (water is available only in Novello and Barolo), and hiking poles if you’re used to using them. The hike is confirmed only if the weather is good.
