Description

Cave Spirituality and Brewing Culture

Guided tour of the Gole del Salinello and Ancarano Regional Reserve in the province of Teramo, Abruzzo: exploring nature, rock art, and a tasting of Artagnale beer.

This itinerary combines the natural beauty of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park with a journey into the culture of craft beer. The experience takes place in the Monti Gemelli mountain range, an area with a rich geological and cultural history.

What to Eat and Drink in L’Aquila

The trail begins on the eastern slope, leading into the Gole del Salinello Nature Reserve. As you walk along a loop trail, you’ll be able to view the canyon from above and admire the imposing limestone cliffs carved out by the river over the course of millennia, while getting an up-close look at the biodiversity of the Apennine flora and fauna. On the way back, the route includes a stopat the Hermitage of St. Michael the Archangel, an ancient rock-cut place of worship located inside a large natural cave, which for centuries has been a witness to stories of spirituality and hermitage.

Once the hike is over, we’ll travel by our own means to Ancarano to visit the Humus Agricultural Brewery. Here, we’ll get a firsthand look at the short supply chain in action: the tour includes an explanation of the production cycle—from growing the raw materials to the final processing—and concludes with an optional tasting of the brewery’s beers paired with local specialties.

Note: The hiking guide reserves the right to refuse to accompany on the hike anyone who, in the guide’s sole discretion, is not equipped with the necessary gear to tackle the planned route. In the event of unfavorable weather conditions, the guide will postpone or cancel the activity.
