The Lazio region is traditionally considered the cradle of modern civilization. In it was born and developed the Roman civilization and in later times the Christian religion, becoming the world capital of it. The territory is located in central Italy; inside it is crossed by the Apennine mountains, while its coast overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. It houses inside the small state of Vatican City. Lazio is crossed by the Tiber river on whose banks it was founded the city of Rome, capital of the region and the capital of Italy. The region is home to three National Parks. The National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise and theNational Park of Gran Sasso and Monti of the Laga which are located in the inner part of the region near the Apennines. The Circeo National Park, however, is located in the south coastal area of the region in the area of the promontory of the Monte Circeo. Always in the Apennines there are ski resorts like Terminillo that allow mountain lovers to practice at will any kind of winter sport. In the region there are also some lake areas such as Lake of Bracciano, Lake of Bolsena and Lake of Vico, all surrounded by small towns of medieval origins with ancient castles and ancient villages full of charm. The place which is more widely known is the city of Rome that inside houses many monuments of incredible beauty, many of which date back to Roman times as the Colosseum and the Roman Forum,many Squares of incredible beauties like Piazza di Spagna, Piazza Navona and Piazza Farnese, many fountains as the Trevi Fountain, the Fountain of the Four Rivers or the Triton Fountain, and many museums and works of art scattered in various buildings and churches. Another place of great artistic importance is Tivoli that is situated 40 km from Rome and which houses two UNESCO World Heritage sites: Villa d’Este of renaissance origins and Villa Adriana dating back to Roman times and residence of Emperor Hadrian. Also on the coast are the seaside resorts of Gaeta, Ostia, San Felice Circeo, Fregene, Ladispoli andSanta Marinella. Nearby Rome you can find the area of the Castelli Romani, this area consists of small villages that surround ancient castles and which are famous for the restaurants and the good food that you can consume admiring landscapes of incredible beauty.
