Tuscany is a region located in the central–northern Italy and is perhaps the most famous Italian region in the world. All this fame comes from the splendid landscapes that offers to the traveler, his works of art housed in numerous cities, its architectures that have the features most varied and also to his kitchen and his food products. Its territory is mostly mountainous in the interior, where flows the Apennine mountains, approaching the coast we find the hilly areas that slowly become plains near the coast. The coastal territory that has a length of about 400 km is wet from the Tyrrhenian Sea; in the north the coasts are wide and sandy especially in the area of Viareggio, Massa Marittima and Forte dei Mar-miwhile proceeding towards south coasts become more jagged and rocky beaches alternating. The hilly areas are formed by the areas of Chianti with the towns of Castelnuovo Berardenga, Greve in Chianti, Radda, Gaiole and Castellina in Chianti where it produces one of the most popular wines in the world, the Chianti; from the areas of the Chiana Valley and Orcia Valley and the Crete Senesi; from the hills of Livorno, Pisa and from the hills in the area of Volterra with the famous “balze” (crags). The Tuscan territory is home to over 100 protected areas covering about 10% of the territory, stand out among all the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, the National Park of the Tuscan-Emilian Apen-ninesand the Casentino Forest National Park, Mount Falterona and Campigna. The region in its long history has hosted many civilizations including the Etruscans who left many memories of his life, now preserved in various cemeteries and archaeological parks such as the Gulf of Baratti and the sites of Pitigliano and Vetulonia. The most important artistic sites are definitely Florence with its museums, Siena with its Piazza del Campo that twice a year hosts the famous Palio, Pisa with its Leaning Tower and its Cathedral located in Piazza dei Miracoli, San Gimignano with tens of towers. Other centers of certain beauty and impor-tance are: Arezzo, Lucca, Montalcino, Montepulciano, Cortona and Pistoia.
