Things to Do and See in Brindisi

The city of Brindisi, located on the Adriatic coast, lies on a deep, horseshoe-shaped inlet connected to the open sea by a channel. This unique feature makes it a perfect natural harbor. Overlooking and guarding the inlet is the Aragonese (or Alfonsino) Castle, with its distinctive reddish hue, located on the island of Sant’Andrea. Though smaller in size but of remarkable beauty, the city of Ostuni stands out; it is known as the “White City” because its historic center was—and still is, for the most part—painted with white lime. Near Fasano, for the enjoyment of young and old alike, you’ll find Italy’s largest wildlife park (zoosafari), where you can admire various animals—such as lions, zebras, antelopes, elephants, and giraffes—roaming freely as you drive along a route through the park in your own car. Nearby is also the “Fasanolandia” theme park, offering fun for everyone. For a vacation in close contact with nature, visit the Torre Guarceto Nature Reserve with its coastal area, where nature reigns supreme and humans are mere spectators. Also worth noting are the towns of Cisternino—which winds through the Itria Valley in the Murge region—Ceglie Messapica, a town with numerous karst caves and ravines, San Vito dei Normanni, and Mesagne.
