Things to Do and See in Rovigo

Rovigo, the capital of the province of the same name, is located along the Adige River and the Canalbianco and is one of the most thriving cities in the Veneto region. There are numerous sites of tourist interest, including the Church of the Beata Vergine del Soccorso, built in 1594, which houses paintings from the Venetian school dating from the 14th to the 18th centuries; the ruins of the Ostense Castle, of which only two towers remain—the Donà, one of Italy’s tallest medieval towers, and the Mozza Tower—both of which lean and stand as a testament to the medieval period. Among the Renaissance civic buildings, we should mention Palazzo Roverella, home to the art gallery of the same name; Palazzo Roncale, built in 1555 by the Roncale family of Bergamo; the neoclassical Palazzo Angeli, Palazzo Ravenna, and the Palazzo dell’Accademia dei Concordi, which houses the art gallery of the same name. Also worth visiting is the Cathedral dedicated to Saint Stephen, Pope and Martyr, built before the 11th century, whose interior houses numerous sculptures and paintings. Elsewhere in the province, we recommend Fratta Polesine, where you can admire Villa Badoer, one of the most beautiful Venetian Palladian villas dating back to the 16th century; Polesella also features splendid villas, all dating from the Renaissance period. In the Veneto region, we mention Porto Tolle, which boasts one of the most evocative and precious landscapes in Italy, and Adria, the town that gave its name to the Adriatic Sea, rich in ancient treasures and home to the National Archaeological Museum, where interesting Etruscan and Roman artifacts are on display. Among the coastal towns, we recommend Rosolina a Mare, a charming town where, almost enclosed between two rivers, a vast and beautiful sandy beach stretches out.
