In Campobasso, among the most important monuments you can admire the Monforte Castle, built in 1450 on the ruins of a Norman building, numerous churches including the Cathedral, the Church of St. George, built in the twelfth century Gothic style, the St. Bartholomew’s Church, in Romanesque style; the Church of St. Antonio Abate, with a late-Renaissance facade and a Baroque interior; the Church of San Leonardo, dating from the thirteenth century. Note also the Museum of the Nativity, which houses a collection of old cribs. Elsewhere in the province, there are many villages rich in history and archeology to start from Larino, a village inhabited since the fifth century. C. with many monuments from various periods including the cemetery, the tombs and the domus Hellenistic, Roman amphitheater with nearby hot springs, the Gothic Cathedral of the fourteenth century, the tower next to the cathedral, the Town Hall and the church of St. Francis. In the town of Sepino you can see the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Saepinum: the Forum, the Basilica, Porta Bojano, the Baths, the Theatre, the Cardo and the Decumano, the walls, the majestic gates. Also interesting are the archaeological sites of Fagifulae – Santa Maria Faifoli at Montagano, that of Bojano, to Trivento and to Tufara and the country villas of Morrone and San Giacomo degli Schiavoni.
