What to do and see in Belluno

what-to-do-and-see-in-belluno

Belluno, the capital of the province, known as the “gateway to the Dolomites”, is located in an elevated position overlooking the river, making the city over the centuries a strategic place for the trade between the alpine valleys and major cities such as Treviso and Venice. Its hallmark is the Gusela of Vescovà, extraordinary spire of the Dolomite mountain range. Among the streets of the city center there are the Cathedral Square which houses the Rector’s Palace, the Cathedral of Belluno and the Palace of Jurists, houses the Civic Museum which exhibits interesting paintings. Numerous are buildings and architecture from different eras as Hugo Porta, typical medieval building, and the Old Market Square where, once upon a time, there was the Roman fort. In the rest of the province there are many towns to visit, starting from Feltre that includes the Castle Tower Alboino, overlooking the entire valley. Do not miss the “Queen” of the Dolomites, Cortina d’Ampezzo, one of the most famous ski resorts in Italy. Not far in the Valley of the Boite, other interesting destinations are Cibiana and San Vito di Cadore, all with modern equipment. In the far north, is the mountain community of Comelico and Sappada, immersed in the suggestive nature of Valgrande, Val and Val Sesis Visdende; while, between Belluno and the Veneto plain, in a unique and enviable position, is the Alpe del Nevegal, an ideal place to visit at any time of year.
