Fruit of ancient and well-established culinary traditions, the province offers a real “journey of taste.” Surprising pleasure are indeed the genuine delicacies of this area, from the main course made entirely of homemade pasta as the “Scialatielli” prepared with lamb sauce, meat sauce or accompanied with vegetables and seasoned with extra virgin olive oil. Other excellent products of this land are the Soppressata of Sannio, the Taralli of San Lorenzello, mushrooms of Cusano Mutri and crunchy (croccantino) of San Marco de Cavoti. And yet other specialties such as artichoke of Pietrelcina, ham and cheese of Petraroia. Two of the most famous native grapes of Campania pass through the region of Sannio: the famousFalanghina and the Aglianico, making this area the heart of the wine-growing region. The real treat, however, remains the celebrated liquor “Strega”, reminiscent of the witches of Benevento, still prepared according to ancient and mysterious recipe, rich in herbs and spices fine that, along with the nougat made with honey and hazelnuts Avellano wisely mixed by the most skilled craftsmen are able to satisfy even the most discerning palates!
