Reggio Calabria, is famous worldwide for the famous Riace Bronzes, two bronze statues discovered in 1972 near Riace, considered among the most important sculptural masterpieces of Greek art. It is very important to visit the Archaeological Museum set up in 1882. Among other monuments important are the Cathedral, where on the main altar you can admire the Our Lady of Consolation; the Aragonese Castle, is another testimony of the history of conquerors during the centuries. There are many centers where to discover traces of the culture of Ancient Greece, starting from Scilla with its rock surmounted by the Ruffo Castle and the Greek area with the centers of Bova, Condofuri, Gallicianò, Roccaforte of the Greek and Roghudi. The ancient village of Brancaleone Superiore still shows the ruins of the castle and the remains of the church dedicated to Our Lady of the Annunciation; while, in Bagnara, you can visit the Saracen Tower and Locri where are the archaeological remains of the Temple of Maras. Finally, near Gioia Tauro, there is an interesting archaeological site and an archaic necropolis, some medieval villages and palaces like Oppido Mamertina in Scido.
